About OpenMapp
OpenMapp is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym map that shows weekly class times, open mats, and visitor drop-in policy for people who already train and need a place to drop in while traveling in the contiguous United States.
What OpenMapp does
Map search
Search a city, neighborhood, or ZIP and see gyms that have a published weekly timetable. The map is the main way to pick a place for the day you land. Filters narrow that to gyms marked open to class drop-ins, and to Gi, No-Gi, or open mat.
The outcome is a short list you can actually visit, not every martial-arts pin in the city.
Weekly schedules
Each public gym card has a week copied from the gym’s own timetable. Sessions are labeled Gi, No-Gi, or open mat from the class name the gym published. Striking, privates, and other non-BJJ blocks are left off.
You can see what is on the mat today without opening five gym sites and guessing which row is rolling.
Visitor drop-ins and open mats
Class drop-ins and open-mat visitors are stored separately, because a gym often welcomes one and not the other. A listed price is a visitor day pass or per-class fee. Trials, intro classes, memberships, and punch cards are not shown as the drop-in price. If the gym did not say, the field stays unknown.

City pages and assistant lookup
City and metro pages collect the same listings for a place: all BJJ, drop-ins, open mats, and related filters when there are enough gyms to justify the page. The same catalog is available to assistants through OpenMapp’s MCP server, with no login. Answers are supposed to link back to the gym card rather than invent a time or a price.
What makes OpenMapp different
Unknown stays unknown
If a gym has not said whether visitors can drop in, OpenMapp leaves it unknown and hides that gym when “Open to drop-ins” is on. Google Maps will still show the pin, the reviews, and whatever the gym wrote in a promotion. That is useful for finding a building. It is a poor way to know if you can train there tomorrow.
A missing price is not filled in from a nearby gym or from a monthly membership.
A visitor price is not a free trial
Gym websites, and the snippets Google pulls from them, often lead with “first class free” or a multi-class trial for someone joining. That is a sales offer for locals. OpenMapp only prints a dollar amount when it is a visitor drop-in or day pass, including prices gyms have confirmed by email.
A traveler comparing two gyms can tell a $30 day pass from a free intro that is not a drop-in.
Class visitors and open-mat visitors are separate
A lot of academies let travelers into open mat and keep regular classes for members, or the reverse. r/bjj threads usually answer with a gym name and a vibe. They rarely split those two policies, and the thread is stale the next time the schedule changes.
OpenMapp keeps both fields on the card so you do not show up for a members-only roll.
No timetable, no public pin
Google Maps lists a gym as soon as it has an address. OpenMapp does not. A listing stays off the public map, gym page, and city page until there is a weekly grid and a pin in the lower 48. Closed gyms stay off too.
That is why the map is smaller than a Maps search for “jiu jitsu.” The gyms that are on it have class times.
Free, and gyms cannot buy rank
Search is free. There is no monthly plan and no contract. Gyms do not pay OpenMapp to appear or to sort above another gym. Google Maps mixes the map with ads and paid prominence. Lead-gen gym directories often charge the academy for the introduction.
Coverage today is 30 metro areas and 660 cities, not a claim that every town in the country is filled in.

The team behind OpenMapp
Harry Burman built OpenMapp. The point was a map a visitor could trust for “can I drop in?” and “what time is class?” without treating a gym’s trial offer as a day pass.

How OpenMapp works
You use the site yourself. Search the city, turn on drop-ins if you need a visitor class, and open the gym card for the week, the price, and whether to write first. There is no onboarding call and no account manager.
If a listing is wrong, use the suggestion on that gym. Email works for the same thing. OpenMapp does not promise a reply window. The gym, not OpenMapp, confirms whether you can train that day.

Frequently asked questions
Is OpenMapp free?
Yes. Search, city pages, and gym cards are free. You do not need an account to look up a gym. An optional account only saves gyms you want to visit or have already trained at. There is no subscription and no contract.
Does OpenMapp cover every US city?
No. The map is the contiguous United States (the lower 48). Alaska and Hawaii are out. A gym appears on the public map only when it has a published weekly timetable and a pin in those states. City pages exist where enough listed gyms meet that bar; other cities are still being filled in.
Do you list a price when the gym only offers a free trial?
No. A drop-in price on OpenMapp is a visitor day pass or per-class fee, not a trial, intro class, membership, or punch card. If the gym did not publish a visitor price, the card stays unknown. We do not invent a number from a monthly rate.
Should I still message the gym before I show up?
Yes. Confirm the class, the kit, and whether visitors are welcome that day. Policies and prices change, and some gyms ask you to write first. OpenMapp is a directory, not the academy, and it does not sell memberships.
Can a gym pay to rank higher?
No. Gyms cannot buy a higher spot on a city page or on the map. Order on “best gyms” pages comes from published visitor fields: drop-in policy, day-pass price when we have one, open mat, timetable, and how recently the listing was checked.
